Scraping lead acid batteries from APC UPS units.

Used lead acid batteries can be recycled in a variety of ways, the easiest is to return them to the seller. Sometime that's not cost efficient, so here's some options---
1) find a battery wholesaler in your area in the yellow pages and drop them off (sometimes they'll even pay you).
2) any retailer handling lead acid batteries---Sears-Walmart-Autozone or even Radio Shack.
3) you can also drop off @ a scrap yard if you have sizable amount and they will pay you.
4) In some parts of the Country you have recycling centers and you can find them online or yellow pages.
5) Or ship your scrap UPS Battery to:

One could also visit this website:

Just type in your zip code, and you get a list of places locally to recycle your old battery.

Call the Radio Shack near you prior to going there to make sure they actually do recycle large lead acid batteries. I'm currently walking around downtown Pittsburgh lugging a 30 pound lead acid battery because I thought Radio Shack would take them. They said they do, but not ones this big. Bummer.
